XIII. Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to speak Finnish to work at Konecranes? While Finnish language skills are a valuable asset, they are not a strict requirement for all positions. English is our corporate language, and a good command of English is sufficient for most roles, particularly in engineering, technology, and corporate functions. For customer-facing roles in Finland, such as field service technicians, some Finnish language ability may be preferred.
What is the cost of living in Finland? Finland offers a high quality of life with a cost of living that is moderate by Nordic standards. Hyvinkää, where our headquarters are located, is significantly more affordable than Helsinki. A single person can expect monthly living costs of approximately €1,200 to €1,500, excluding rent. Rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Hyvinkää ranges from approximately €500 to €800 per month.
What are the working hours? The standard working week in Finland is 37.5 to 40 hours. Most office-based roles follow a flexible working time model, allowing you to adjust your start and end times within agreed limits. What is the tax rate in Finland? Finland has a progressive income tax system. For the salary ranges offered in these positions, the effective tax rate typically ranges from approximately 25% to 40%, depending on your total income and municipality of residence. Despite the relatively high tax rates, the comprehensive public services you receive in return, including healthcare, education, and social security, represent excellent value.
What about family benefits? Finland is one of the best countries in the world for families. The Finnish social security system provides generous parental leave, child allowances, and subsidized daycare. If you move to Finland with your family, your children will have access to the world-renowned Finnish education system, which is free at all levels, from pre-school to university.
